Quick Tip of the Month
Gravity Application
Gravity
conveyor is often installed on a decline. When used on a
decline, its most likely application is a "gravity flow
system." Although less expensive than power conveyor,
gravity does not provide a positive flow. The degree of pitch
needed for a gravity conveyor to operate efficiently depends on
several factors:
- The type of conveyor, roller or skatewheel.
- Are the bearings grease packed or clean? (Grease packed
bearings roll slower)
- The weight of the package.
- The quality or firmness of the package bottom
--The
flow rate of boxes on a gravity conveyor is also affected by the
acceleration effect of a spinning roller or wheel which is still
spinning after a box has travelled over it.
--Straight line of gravity decline. Boxes go faster and
faster as they move down the conveyor.
--Retarding plates and other restraining devices are
available to slow boxes. Boxes may also be slowed by changing
the angle of decline periodically.
--Items usually flow easier on a skatewheel than a roller
conveyor.
